Headlight Protection Questions (long)

I am about to replace the DOT headlight lenses on my '01 9-5 Aero Wagon with E-Code lenses from Daniel Stern Lighting. While discussing my purchase with him, I indicated that I was planning on putting Stongard Light over the new lenses. Stern recommended against Stongard, citing heat generated cracks in glass lenses after Stongard. He suggested X-Pel instead.
After reviewing X-Pel and Stongard, I uncovered one significant difference,
Stongard is 0.06 inches thich vs X-Pel being 0.04 inches thick.
My queries:
1. Has anyone had thermally cracked lenses after Stongard? Or might that be a problem with other headligh/lens designs and not Saab?
2. Has anyone with either Stongard or X-Pel experienced significant scratching of the film by the headlight wipers?
3. Has anyone in northern climates with Songard or X-Pel experienced ice buildup on their headligh lenses while driving in snow or ice storms?
Thanks,
Keith Porter, Newtown,CT
