it's aurally uneven. It's good at bass. It's good at highs. Every Bose system I've heard is a midrange vacuum. Which makes sense, since there's no midrange driver in most (any?).
I listened to Bose, and seriously considered it. But when comparing them to the M&K speakers I eventually got, the difference was amazing. You have to compare them to another (mid-range capable) speaker family to really notice the difference. In Seattle there are several good speaker shops where you can compare Bose to more acoustically even speakers.
Frankly I'd recommend M&K in a heartbeat - but they are (as good speakers are) expensive. Get what sounds good to you. Lots of people can't hear what's missing in the Bose speakers - and they do sound pretty darn good if you don't mind/notice the usually underpresent midrange.
