I switched in December to a 14" 933Mhz iBook G4. I'm really enjoying it. OS X is elegant and stable, and the bundled applications are excellent (I really like the consistency of look and features).
I use Office v.X, or at least mainly Word v.X. It takes a bit of getting used to after Word XP. The most obvious difference is the slightly different look and feel and in particular the way that windows resizing works on the Mac. I have had some problems with file corruption: a few files with graphics haven't worked on my Mac, which is annoying. There is a new version of Office for Mac due out shortly, and I think that if you buy the old version now you get a cheap upgrade to the new one when it comes out. Perhaps that will improve things.
The 12'' has the same screen resolution as the 14". The 12" would be great for the added portability, but I'd be tempted to use an external monitor at home (officially the iBook only supports monitor mirroring, but you can hack it easily to get monitor spanning (at your risk).
I haven't taken out Applecare, but it counds like it might be useful if you move the laptop around a great deal. that said, they're supposed to be tough little fellas...
Take a look at the support>discussions page at Apple.com. There have been some issues with the new iBooks which you should probably be aware of. That said, like Saabnet, you tend to read about problems and forget that most users probably have few difficulties. FWIW I haven't had anything major go wrong and I'm a happy camper thus far. there are lots of user reviews over at Cnet.com which might be of interest to you.
Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Sorry to ramble on...
