Rob,
I agree with your assessment on the fairing cutting down the wind noise. Used the same fairing on a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder, 1992, 1995 and 1996 Ford Taurus and 1997 Saturn SL2. All of which I experienced less wind noise and slightly better gas mileage with the fairing on. In regards to your statement about the rubber gasket damaging the paint, I found the solution was to install the fairing so that the rubber gasket would just rest on the glass of the front windshield instead on top of the roof of the vehicle.
