I couldn't believe my ears when Mel called me Friday night about this crash. On behalf of Mel, thanks everyone for words of encouragement...

What I was going to suggest was to see a lawyer about what could be done in this situation. I know that the car was well maintained and all the work was done at Saab dealer. But still, even though the car protected its occupant, this should not have happened. The issue is not how well the car performed during rollover (yes we are thankful for that), but this should not have happened in the first place. Some people may think that this once again proves that Saab is a safe car. But let's think a minute. Would you want to drive a car that makes you lose control of the car and flip you five times, even though it is supposed to be a safe car? I would hate to think what would have happened to an unbelted passenger. There is no amount of engineering that can be done to protect an unbelted person in a car that rolls 5 times at highway speeds. I don't know, but let's hope that we don't have another Ford Exploder case on hand. I sincerely hope that this was a freak accident and the Saab 9-3 converts don't generally behave this way... How many similar cases and deaths are necessary for a NHTSA probe? I'm a Saab enthusiast. But if one of Saab models are unsafe, I would like to see Saab(GM) trying to correct the situation, instead of looking the other way. That would make me even more loyal. If not, I'll only be a pre-GM Saab enthusiast.

I'll be trying to meet with Mel and his girl friend today to see how they are doing.

James from Michigan...
