So I can't help with info on the physical mounting, but after that I imagine the general process is similar.
#1 after the drive is physically installed and see if it boots. It should autodetect the drive and show it on the boot screen.
#2 Enter BIOS (del or F1 depending on the model), make sure the parameters listed for physical drives match the new drive. If not set the physical drives to autodetect and reboot.
#3 in BIOS reset the boot order to boot first from a CD, then HDD.
#4 Put your WinXP/2K CD in the drive and reboot, it should walk you through the partitioning and installation process. When it asks make sure you use NTFS to format the drive.
There may be registration issues with WinXP from a new installation like that. I've only ever done installations with our site licensed version. If there is trouble booting check to see that the drive itself is set to master or cable select using the jumpers on the back of the drive. Laptop drives might not have these settings, but it's a subtle thing that trips up a lot of desktop HDD installations.
Good luck with it, compared to cars computer repairs are cake =)
