Have you noticed that a 250hp 9-5 Aero gets better mileage than a 185 hp 9-5 Linear! It's only 1 mpg, but still, how can that be?
Your assertion would be correct for an engine that didn't optimize it's compression/boost and other engine parameters, but Saab Trionic makes the engine more effecient and there's two results to that, more power and better mileage.
While no scientific test has confirmed this, many on these BB's including me, can report a similar finding. My mileage goes from 22-23 to 23-24 with higher octane, and I definitely feel the power difference.
It is possible that this increased mileage on premium is a placebo effect as many money back gas gizmos rely upon, but then how do you account for a car that has 1/3 more horsepower getting better economy?
