The site engineer at my company has a PDA phone from Verizon (pretty cool if you can stand the bulk). It runs some flavor of Windows and he can get partial DSL speeds anywhere he can get service. He's able to monitor, maintain, configure and even reboot servers from his PDA, as well as all the usual stuff like web and email access. It's an invaluable tool for someone who has some 24x7 obligation that goes easier with internet/VPN access. He's also a gadget freak (aren't we all at this point?) I believe that Verizon also offers a PCMCIA (small thin card for laptops) modem that also works with this service meaning you could have the same flexibility with a laptop. I do know that the cost for this service is about $80/month unlimited so it doesn't sound far-fetched.
So the question is, is what this person does important enough ($80/month worth) that having internet access anywhere is of great benefit, or is just staying close to a computer when necessary a better solution?
Hope that helps,
John
