as the LCD screen has a native resolution. If you change to a lower resolution then your display doesn't look too hot.
You essentially have to use whatever the LCD native resolution and if you have old eyes like me, you have to either increase the font size and icon size to compensate but you can only do so much with that before messing up the alignment of some of the pages.
What graphics card do you have ? Does it have a digital out for the monitor ? Most LCDs these days prefer digital inputs instead of analog.
The large panel LCD (i.e. 20" or bigger) tends to be a bit slower but they should be plenty fast for most purpose. I have four fast 19" Samsung LCD (Samsung 930) monitors at home, no dead pixel on any of them, very pleased with them. The expensive monitors have stands that are more user friendly and probably wider range for picture adjustments.
Remember there are only a few LCD panel manufacturers (Samsung, LG among the big players), so the screens are basically the same.
I think you should try one out from one of your local chain stores. If you don't like it, just return it, make sure you go to a store that doesn't have re-stocking 8-).
