tends to be delicate. It doesn't need to be driven hard for a tweeter to die, most cause of death of a tweeter is distortion from your power amp, voltage spikes, or a direct current from the power amp such as a malfunctioning direct-coupled amp. It may seem odd but it's easier to damage a tweeter from a low-power low-quality amp than a good high-power amp.
Have you isolated that it is indeed the tweeter and not the crossover elements ? If so how did you come to the conclusion that it is the tweeter ? Did you unsolder the wires from the tweeter to the crossover and check the tweeter by itself ? If you have ventured that far, just unsolder the original tweeter and test tweeter by itself and then the crossover with any tweeter or speaker you have on hand. Any cheapo speaker would serve the purpose.
Have you called the manufacturer ? They may suggest a few things to test.
You have a good speaker and if you can get it back to the manufacturer I would just send it back and have it repaired. I don't know how old is your system, sometimes manufacturers make running change to their components so the tweeter they can sell you now may not match what you have and they would tune the crossover accordingly.
