Best quarter ever for Saab...and a little more

Just read an article on Rick Wagoner's speech in Washington where he quoted Saab's best quarterly performance ever (34 000 cars worldwide) as being one of GM's brightspots. He then added that GM had no intention of selling Saab.
On a yearly basis, that's still only 136 000 cars, but definitely a step in the right direction. As long as it's enough to keep the brand alive ! With GM Europe declaring profits again, I would think Saab is in a much better situation within the GM empire than ever. Whether we agree with the direction GM is giving Saab or not, at least we can still debate about it. For my part, I like what I've heard recently about keeping a strong Saab identity and the interest in hybrid Saabs.
I wish they kept working on the Variable Compression Engine. I would like Saab to keep it's traditional values of safe, comfortable and practical cars while becoming the most environmentally vehicles on the planet, nevertheless retaining the fun to drive factor. (wishfull thinking ?)
