Biggest hassle of owning an older car in Maine, IMO. Many of the inspectors are on real power trips. Last year I passed only after the inspector insisted that I remove my radar detector suction cupped to my windshield, as "it's illegal to have anything stuck to your windshield". Funny, I'd never heard that one before, you'd think the cops giving me speeding tickets might have mentioned it.
Some of the more rural areas still have old school inspectors, who have you sit in the car while they walk around yelling "horn, windshield wipers, headlights, turn signals, brake lights". Few and far between, but they are the best if you can find them.
