How timely. I was just talking with my financial-type last night about getting out of putnam (and he was suggesting it himself, too). Moving one Roth to another Roth is a fairly simple matter, but you may still have to pay a penalty to Putnam based on your share class. If you have class B shares, you will likely pay a back end load (if you sell within 7 years of purchase you are on the hook for the backend load, after 7 years they become Class A shares, with no backend). With class A you have already paid what you are going to pay. I don't know the restrictions on Class C shares with Putnam. Either way, its worth understanding what you may get hit with. But if the performance sucks, take the short term hit and get out.
I am. And the money will go to either American Funds (which I have been very happy with) or Calamos, a small firm with even better returns (but only 7 funds).
