After >20 years of paying other people to do it I'm taking on some of the maintenance on my older Saabs (`84 900, `87 900T). I'm an American boy so of course I tinkered with cars as a youth and even succeeded at a few semi-non-trivial repairs (suspension arms, head gaskets, clutch, synchros) in addition to the usual carb rebuilds, replacing the odd water or fuel pump, wheel bearings, brakes, etc. I still have all my tools including metric stuff I bought when I had a `62 Mercedes 220 S. (Fun car, four on the tree stumped all my friends.)
Reading on the boards here, though, I'm out of date. Back then we never used anti-seize or Loctite. Dielectric grease? Never had heard of it. So where does a DIY'er go to fill in skills that are 25 or 30 years out of date? Got Bentleys and Haynes, but just looking for general knowledge type stuff.
PS: Recently taught 17 year old daughter how to change oil in "her" `84 900. She has become a devoted Saabophile and will probably be up to her elbows in grease with me.
