It's splitting hairs, perhaps literally, but it's probably not a great thing to have some hard plastic remote opener hanging off your visor in a bad accident. Homelink eliminates that danger. In a car with the ignition in the center console for knee safety, it's fair to argue for ditching another threat.
Before Homelink, I always kept my clicker in the under-knee pocket on the seat. Worked great there. Surely safer too.
