Cross thread repair advice wanted Posted by Caarl [Email] (#447) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Caarl) on Sun, 8 Oct 2006 15:48:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a cross threading issue to fix. It's only munged on about the first 1/4 to 3/8 turn but needs cleanup. What type of tap best for this? They seem to come in three tapers. I would think the more taper the better, as it will engage more of the good threads and go into the hole straighter. Any other advice? I've never had much luck with cleaning up female threads except by using a tap but I am open to suggestions. It's a seat belt hanger on a body pillar, so I can't get to the back side of the nut. I do NOT want to wreck these threads as the nut is welded to the pillar.
Just to make it more interesting it's an odd size, M11 x 1.25. I could not find in any of my local shops, but I have one more to try that's only open weekdays.
