Ok so I needed a new daily driver for work. My old F150 is getting worn out, and needs to be put down. Since gas has gotten so spendy, I wnated a car that gave me better fuel economy than the 15 mpg my truck had sunk to.
Shopping for cars in the sub 5K range can be an exercise in futility.
On Auto Trader I find a 93 Saab 9000CSE with 95K on the odometer and appers to be well cared for. I do some research on the net, and read the horror stores about neglected used Saabs, and the joys of driving a good one.
So I go drive it, and it's a fine car. Looks to be well maintained, although it is not perfect. But at that age, what is?
I notice that there is a bit more valve noise than a modern japanese engine. But it is a 16 valve, no turbo, and uses a timing chain. It's still quieter than my 3.0 liter Mitsubishi engine in my Dodge Caravan.
The car drivers very well, and has no pressing issues that I can see.
So it follows me home after I lay out the cash that is the equivilent to a good used tube amp and pre amp combo. But I am uncertain I did the right thing. This is a loaded auto, and probably far better than what I need for a work car. It is nice though, climate control, power seats, leather interior, trip computer, ABS, probably the whole shooting match for options in 93.
Yet I feel a bit uncertain after the purchase. Did I buy the right car? I guess only time will tell.
Regards,
Mister Pig
PS
No I was not able to drop if off to a mechanic for an inspection. It was too far away, about 120 miles each way, and had the family with me. This car was only listed for 1 day, and I am pretty sure would ahve sold quite soon.

Actually found a few issues. The one that catrches my attention is that I hear a small sound..maybe like a bump when I first start out. Once power is applied it never resurfaces. Doesnt sound bad, not very loud, but not sure what it is. Something must be loose, don't think it'sa CV issue.
Other than that all I can find is a factory cd player that spits discs out. And a sunroof whose switch won't close the roof. Opens it quite nicely I might add. Oh yes, and a power antennea that wont retract, although I can hear the motor cycle.
