Hi everyone,
this might be a no-brainer to some. I located a 1999 9-5 wagon (102K, auto, 1 owner) $6888 and 2001 9-3 (80K, 5spd, 3dr, 1 owner) $7800. A saab dealership is selling the 9-5 and disclosed, a new engine was installed by them a month ago. He said they want to make sure its mechanically sound, hoping it showed their aggressiveness in treating problems with the car before selling it. They accepted an offer of $6K. The 9-3 is a base model, silver, grey valour, pretty clean looking. I look at both tomorrow. I previously owned 86 900 (a tank; solid), 89 9000S (problematic) and a 95 900SE (fun car and had high miles; 180K). An offer of $7200 was accepted. I've always had 5spds and have avoided automatics, after i had to replace a automatic in a XR4ti (remember those?). Looking at the boards here it sounds like 9-5's can be really problematic. And I'm scared of getting caught with something that'll be full of trouble. I guess I'm attracted to the full features and comfort of the wagon.
I welcome anyones input.
thanks,
BTW, I have to give a HUGE recommendation to Sewell Cadillac/SAAB in Dallas. They did a pre-purchase inspection for my last saab 4 years ago. They were great then and even better today when i bought them a 99 9-3 to look at. In all the dealerships I EVER been in, my experience there without a doubt was the best. It was a friendly, warm atmosphere... someone passed freshly baked cookies around to customers, free beverages, internet access. And again it was for a $40 pre-purchase inspection (CHEAP!!!!!) with someone explaining the details of what might be wrong with the car and happy to discuss my concerns in finding a used saab. GREAT PLACE!!!!!
