Computer hardware problems

I run a web server at home. Just for my personal website and image gallery. I have been heaving some problems with it lately that I beleave are hardware related.
If I leave the computer off for a few hours to make sure it's cooled down and then try to turn it back on it powers up but doesn't do anything more than that. The powersupply turns on, the cpu fan is spinning but the screen stays blank. I then try to reboot the computer every 5 minutes or so untill it suddenly boots. All reboots after this point are successfull, unless the computer has time to cool down between reboots.
This leads me to thinking the problem is heat related. Further more, I left a window open close to the computer (it sits on the floor below the window), and the cold air was sufficient (-6°C outside) to crash the computer. It crashes without an error message of any sort. it just stops responding. The screen still shows the command promt (running Ubuntu 6.06 server edition) and /var/log/messages just stops recording at the time of the crash.
I get this kind of a crash every 2-5 days in normal operation. (Getting a crash every 5 minutes with the window open, and need several reboots to start it again)
I would appreciate any insight into what might be at fault.
