I bought my 92 900S in 1995 off lease from a dealer in NJ and when I picked up the car it unexpectedly had a fresh set of "Ching Ding" radials made in China as they thought the original Michelins were shot at 38,000 miles. (They were). They assumed they would not pass the inspection.
I stopped at a tire store in NY on the way home from the dealer and bought Michelin MVXs and sold the Ching Dings to the mechanic for $50 bucks each, best swap I ever made.
Moral: Chinese tires were cheap and thats the only reason the dealer gave them to me without asking. Probably cost him $25 a piece.
Tires made by 10 year olds made in the dark at night ain't worth it. But the party leaders in the mother country make a fortune.
