you see that the 10K interval is for driving that DOESN'T involve much idling, stop and go driving, trips of under 7 miles, etc.

In other words, what is normal to most of us requires a more frequent change interval.

This is noted in at least 3 places in the manual on our '03 9-5 wagon and the manual specifies Mobil 1 0W40 or other oil that meets the same specs. (Never mind the fact that the local dealer only uses Mobil 1 if you tell him to).

It doesn't matter whether the PCV system, the change intervals or the oil is the issue in sludging. It may be all three. So change the oil and put in the good stuff. Paying for extra changes beats buying an engine.
