After 280K miles on a 2000 9-5...... Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Tue, 1 Jan 2008 17:41:35 In Reply to: 9-3 or 9-5?, Mitch, Tue, 1 Jan 2008 14:06:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I do have a thought or two....
Maintained regularly the 9-5 is a very reliable car. Others have provided some very good advice. Particularly, the 9-5 is more of a car; I'm on my third new one, a 2007 9-5 Aero.
First, I had my 2000 9-5 Aero which I put 280K miles on...and is now onto another 100K-200K miles with a new owner. Second, my wife bought a 2004 9-5 ARC; after 60K miles it's proven to be very reliable. Finally, I bought a new 2007 9-5 Aero last August and have enjoyed 7.7K miles and a lot of smiles....it has ZERO defects.
If you're going to buy a 2000 9-5 with 100K+ miles....know the maintenance history (make sure you can have a hard copy) and how the car has been used. I'd look for daily commutes of 20-30 minutes on the highway AND 5K oil change intervals. The hint of sludge should be a deal killer. Other normal maintenance is really minor on a relative basis.
One very good post suggested that if you are not a DIYer, don't get yourself into car payments and maintenance expenses. As an example, shocks, struts, a water pump, DIC, throttle body or fuel pump can happen after 100K miles....and they will set you back.
