Good cars to look at would be the Cobalt SS (which has an available LSD or it may even be standard) and the Mazdaspeed 3, which reminds me a lot of the Viggen.
Both have LSD's. However you may have to wait until the '09 Cobalt comes out or find a used '07 since they stopped making them for a year. (I think)
Most of the Saab's can be fitted with an LSD however it costs $$$. If money is the problem, it would be cheaper to get an Audi and use the money you would have spent on a LSD and put it towards the difference in gas.
What about getting an older Jeep Cherokee for cheap as a second vehicle, which would be used on trips you think might be problematic?
