Direct Ignition = coil on each plug electronic distributorless ignition which also handles the function of knock detection.
Direct Injection = fuel under high pressure is injected directly into each cylinder
Saabs in recent history have all injected fuel into the intake manifold runners, which is generic "fuel injection"
