I just fixed my 30+ year old dryer a few weeks ago Posted by IrieTom [Email] (#1032) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IrieTom) on Fri, 16 May 2008 15:26:29 In Reply to: Re: OT-Maytag repairman, motor misfire on dryer,, Dean-KS, Mon, 12 May 2008 21:20:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
turns out that the blower fan had finally gotten clogged with lint, which in turn caused the driveshaft to back itself out of the fan. I pulled the lint out, spun the fan back onto its shaft, and the thing is still chugging away. It's a early/mid 70's Kenmore (Sears) and is dirt simple. One electric motor powers a belt which turns both the drum (insert clothes here) and the fan shaft. The fan is on the exhaust side of the system. I'm assuming that there is a little electric grid heater which the intake air flows through on the other side, because I wasn't curious enough to start dismantling more stuff once I fixed the thing.
