I hung onto an old issue of Automobile Magazine from some years ago. In this issue, the subject of automobile design was was discussed in depth. One of the people that they interviewed was Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche. He discussed designs that were considered fairly cutting-edge for the day. Two of the cars that he discussed in some depth were the Audi A-6 (which was new at the time) and the Acura NSX. He related that Porsche had purchased a NSX and pretty much disassembled it from an engineering standpoint. He found the car to be very impressive and did not have even the slightest derogatory comment about the car. He did, however, question the issue of where does Honda/Acura go from here regarding the exterior design of the NSX. He found the design functional from a standpoint of aerodynamics, but felt that the car would be difficult to evolve from the standpoint of updating the exterior of the car due to what Porsche felt were an odd combinations of lines and angles. Truth be told, I think Honda/Acura did a great job as far as evolving the NSX's exterior. My point is regarding the BMW "GINA" project is.......where are we going here? I understand the energy (weight) efficiency and lowered manufacturing costs of the car, but how many places in the world can a fabric-covered car present year-around practicality? I even understood what an "acronym" was prior to Chris Bangle's (BMW's design chief) explanation.
