What is a "reasonable" work week? 30 hours? 40? 50? And it goes beyond the number of hours to how expectations are set. Then there is corporate culture. Are people sufficiently compensated for the work they are asked to do?
Back in the bad old days when I had an employer I worked in ad agencies and consulting companies, places rife with Type A overachievers. You got in about 8 AM and on a good day left at 6 PM. A couple nights a week you were usually there until 8, 9 even 10. Comp time? You're kidding, right? Many people also worked on weekends. Many friends had similar schedules working in law and high tech. No one liked it, but it's the way it was.
If you take a job and don't like the hours or the workload, is that a reflection on you, the employer, or both? Or it's just not a good fit. To be sure, some employers treat their people badly and put huge pressure on them to work ridiculous hours. But then again most people are employees at will and you can always leave. Other companies treat their people well. Most are in the middle. But why should a company be judged on how they treat their employees?
