The early (60-64) Corvairs were GM's first unibody effort, and WAY overengineered (stiffer than they needed to be). You can jack one up in front of the rear wheel and the whole side of the car comes up - and the doors will still work perfectly. A properly adjusted early Corvair door will latch itself shut when released from about 6" open.
Now, the late model convertibles (65-95) like I have are a completely different story in body stiffness...
Although they ALL have about a 3' crush zone in front of the front suspension. The only thing to panic you there is that full-length solid steering shaft...
