I guess if you look at it on the other side of the turbo it's pulling more air into the intake, but then once it passes through the turbo I'm pretty sure it's pushing. Hence the term "forced induction." And yes, I'm pretty sure the extra air in there needs more fuel to combust with so I don't think it uses the same amount of fuel. Jeez. But you're very right, you get more power out of a smaller, lighter engine so you boost the economy.
