When I worked in automotive marketing, we used such research to understand the mindset and values of the customers of the different brands at our company. Our intent wasn't to sell this information, but to better understand the customer. This knowledge would guide us in where we advertised, what types of product features to add, powertrains to include, etc... It also can help understand which products competed with other products that we sold.
As an example, a liberal, environmentally conscious buyer has very different needs/wants and opinions of different brands than a conservative status-driven person.
