That snow is so pretty, until someone needs to get up on the roof and clean it off...
This spring, my house underwent a major roof replacement that included everything down to the rafters, industrial rubber on the flat sections, new gutters, and a whole new wall of shingles where there had been extensive hidden water damage. The water-damaged area was adjacent to the flat sections and it was later determined that snow piled up on on those areas combined with very old flashing had contributed the problem.
Our roofers did a fantastic job, and that now leads to this question: now that we have a lovely, expensive, and properly installed and flashed rubber roof on the flat sections, must we still get up there and clear off the snow? Or will the new construction help keep the water problems at bay? I would like to nominate my other half to get up on the roof with the shovel; he's desperate to find any reason to avoid this cold, dangerous job. Hence, we turn the matter over to the brain trust of Saabnet!
Thanks & stay warm. Among the many things I have to be thankful for, the "roof over my head" has taken on an important new meaning this year.
