In 1980, we purchased a brand new Buick Skylark (same platform as Chevy citation X-drive.) It was really sort of an OK car, meaning that it was reliable (at least ours was), fairly comfortable, roomy, and fit our family needs at that time. My wife drove it off an embankment when it was three years old which resulted in a cracked engine sub-frame that had to be replaced. The car was never right after that so we got rid of it, replacing it with a new Saab (the car choice ever since).

When I was a couple of years out of college, I bought a new 1973 Chevy Vega GT. The car was a three-door hatch, very nice interior, nice wheels, Polyglass GT tires, GT suspension and a first for me, air conditioning. The car did handle nicely for the day, had pleasant styling, and was practical with the hatchback. However, it did have the cylinder block sleeve issue going and just after two years, it was blowing oil at an alarming rate. Of course, Chevy told me take my complaints elsewhere. Remember, GM usually won these type of arguments back then. Seeing as how repairing that engine would have resulted in the same issue soon after the repair, coupled with the fact that I had no dependents at that time, I stuck a small-block Chevy engine in the car along with some beefed-up suspension pieces. NOW I had the car that GM should have marketed....surprised alot of people at stoplights. I made the conversion money back when I sold the car a few years later and boy, do I wish I had that car back now!
