We have had a 2005 Prius for a year and a half. Starting with MY2004, the Prius has used electric a/c so that the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) does not to have to run all the time you have the heat on like in the pre-2004 models. Being electric, neither the a/c nor the power steering are operated by a serpentine belt. The reason the heater warms up so quickly is that when the car is powered off, three liters of heated coolant are pumped into a thermal tank which is returned to the engine when you next start the engine.
