Saturn and Pontiac are the losers... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Wed, 18 Feb 2009 12:27:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The front page of the local rag said GM will cut down to Chevy, GMC, Caddy and Buick, cut Saab and Pontiac, and sell Saab. Let's skip Saab for a minute.
Hmmmmm....Saturn abandoned by GM, wow, but hey, they don't sell an in house product anymore. Everything is a clone. So logically it makes sense if you're GM and consolidating and cutting back. And I'm sure the continuum will survive without an Opel Astra in the fold. What makes it more amazing personally is that I worked at Saturn of Kearny Mesa for 8 years and am familiar with the rise out of nothing to a major player in the San Diego market, and I guess now back to nothing? What compensation is coming to the franchises, if any?
Pontiac also sells little unique product. The G8 is really a Holden, and the G6 is a holdover from the old style Malibu. Nothing branded Pontiac isn't somewhere else in the GM stable.
Keeping Buick makes sense to me as they do have a unique platform I believe and Buick is the #1 selling car in China I understand. Though I would be much more likely myself to buy a Pontiac or Saturn.
