Pretty much bolt in - you could yank the T5 from your thunderchicken and stick it right in the XR. You need a custom crossmember, but they're available for about $50. You also need a new driveshaft - either a custom job with a T5 yoke and XR4Ti flange, or a driveshaft from a Mustang with an adapter ($100), or a driveshaft from a Thunderbird with some slight modification to the flange. Plenty of options, not expensive. On mine, I used a transmission from an '86 Turbocoupe (better ratios for me), and an aluminum Ford Racing driveshaft from a Mustang with an adapter. The AL unit is much larger in diameter and requires clearancing the handbrake brake and the floorpan slightly, but it's a big weight savings. Clutch is from any 2.3 turbo car - just slight tweaks to mate the XR's cable with the T5 fork. Whoops - forgot - you can't bolt up your transmission. You would need a cable-type bellhousing from a 2.3l car, turbo or non.
