to make people feel good. While it's good to prevent people from bringing obvious weapons on a plane, someone with the training could take out the flight attendants with their hands and feet, then tie them up. Getting to the flight deck is more of an issue, though, and the airline pilots I know have been trained to deal with that.

Still, I've had TSA weenies joke with me about bombs and explosives, even at the same airport where they routinely open and frisk my carry-ons.

And as a friend puts it, "It's a good thing the shoe bomber didn't have the bomb in his underwear!"
