I suppose that might be possible, although I have about 3,000 miles on mine since I did it with no issues. I have also used the same technique on an Audi I had and went many thousands of miles without a problem.
The rotor seems to absorb a lot of the shock from the hammer blows and seems to flex when I hit it. That's probably why it took 5 minutes of beating to get the job done.
