Dexcool is an excellent product developed by French oil giant Total. GM had some serious problems with their poorly designed cooling systems and people blamed Dexcool. I personally have used Dexcool in Subarus, Fords and of course GM cars with no issues whatsoever, for hundreds thousand of miles.
If Mark's 9-5 came with Dexcool originally, that's what he should continue using. As long as the coolant is changed every few years there will be no issues. I have no clue if Prestone is safe to use, though. Genuine GM Dexcool is a little expensive but perhaps it is OK spread over a few years, no?
