GM is a lead weight around America's neck (and so is the UAW). The Obama administration should never have invested dollar one in saving such a poorly managed POS company (the same goes for Chrysler). Prior to several SAAB's the last GM product I owned was a 1966 Chevy Nova (with 283 V8) I had in college. Now that was a good, reliable car. The damn thing actually fell apart around the engine...

The only U.S. branded vehicles I have ever purchased new were four Fords and a Chrysler. 1988 Taurus wagon - this was a pretty reliable car. Sold it with 88K miles and a heater core leak. 1992 Taurus SHO - worst car I've ever owned. Engine would cut out unexpectedly while driving it.. very dangerous... couldn't wait to get trid of that car. 1995 Windstar - also a pretty reliable vehicle but it developed a water pump leak at around 70K miles. 1999 Ford Escort. Another Ford POS. Has to replace outer tie rod ends on it at 9K miles as Ford claimed it was a 'wear item'. 2002 Chrysler Town & Country - also a fairly reliable vehicle. However, it developed a power steering rack leak at about 50K miles and I had to replace the alternator at 38K miles (just outside the warranty period). Traded it in on a 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero XWD Sportcombi (Great car!!!). As far as Japanese cars are concerned I had a 1990 Nissan Maxima that I loved until the engine seized at 8K miles. Dealer found a factory manufacturing defect in the engine when they replaced the short block. I got rid of that car for a 1991 Dodge Stealth (made by Mitsubishi). I didn't have that car three weeks before it was in the shop for three weeks while the dealer waited on avialbility of a new engine control module.
So, I am totally unimpressed with the build quality and reliability of American made cars (and you can add Jap cars as well). The most reliable cars I've ever owned are Volvos and SAABs. Although it will be interesting to see how the '08 SAAB holds up over the years.
I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER purchase another American made car...
