Water pump leaked profusely through front bushing, Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Sun, 3 Jan 2010 09:33:52 In Reply to: Thanks very much for your input, Bill..., Dan s, Sun, 3 Jan 2010 08:57:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
where the shaft enters the pump - it didn't seize up. I discovered this proplem only because of the large puddle of antifreeze on the floor of the garage, my wife said "can't this wait?" - um no, it can't.
The Graf pump that I received had a metal impeller, I believe that some pumps have a plastic part which can deteriorate and/or become detached from the shaft. Considering that a waterpump is something like a century-old technology, there isn't much excuse for this.
The thermostat is also painful to replace. It is possible to replace it without removing the timing belt, but it's very difficult and not recommended. The guy who replaced my parts did the entire job without moving the front end of the car, but he didn't replace the front seals - which it now needs at 125,000 miles.
