These have been my thoughts for some weeks now. If, there are so many people so interested in the brand, then, the company will survive in some form. We have seen great interest. It is far and away greater than the support for Olds, Triumph, Pontaic, Hummer, or any of the dead companies.
The smart many people, i.e. the Wharton business schools grads, who have been running all these brands into the ground now say, in so many words, "nothing can come out of the west again and win against the Chinese in any form of competiation, because no one wants to work for 12 dollars an hours after 17 years of education, but they will in China. We here in the west are finished as a builder of anything besides base ball hats, and ice cream.
I think not, if someone can break the logo Saab free from this mess and do some really creavtive marketing, and new thinking such as designing cars specially build for the needs of the engineer, or the the teacher, one for the doctor, etc, etc, and market them in such a way that those professional people will believe these specials could actually help them in their work. You might sell some cars and start a new trend, instead of following the one BMW developed 4 years ago. The basic car, say a 9-3 would not have to be changed much, drivetrain wise, just some storage and sheet mental on the rear. The U.S. army is doing this with their Styker vehicle. One frame, 7 missons Maybe you get rid of all the dealers and sell through a retailer like Ikea( a freindly and like minded group).
But key here is the name SAAB, a way must be found to keep it without 20 year long law suits that no one can afford. With the brand name, new ideas and fresh ideas you could have a new money making Saab, but just doing what GM has planned is yet another failture in the making. Let them take their new 9-5, and leave the name behind, we realy don't want that car anyway, it is a Buick, and another pack follower.
