For some weeks now, my wife and I had considered a new 9-3 in light of some really great deals out there. Ideally, we would like to see Saab stay viable before we made a deal. Then we rationalized that even if the brand goes away, service of new cars and certainly warranty issues would be addressed by GM. According to a good source at our dealer, certain Cadillac dealers would absorb a number of Saab techs. However, that information was about six weeks ago.
Now it seems that GM is taking a very active role in undermining every proposal that's presented. Yesterday's paper said that if Saab goes under, parts would continue for some time, but could very well bear a cost increase that will certainly be passed on to us. All of us, to some degree, and certainly those of us who have been with Saab since GM came onto the scene, have actually supported GM with the purchase of their cars and their parts. It's not our fault that they dropped the ball!!! For years, they purported to support Saab by offering outdated, limited, or re-badged offerings. What car company keeps a body style for nine years (900/9-3) or 11 years (9-5.) I kept buying them because they offered other advantages that fit me well. I didn't care about the latest and greatest body design. Hell, my other car is a 911 and that body design is certainly anything but "cutting-edge" more than 40 years after its introduction.
Now, today, GM says at the Detroit auto show that Saab is going away. My wife has put the brakes on the 9-3 Aero deal, not only for the reason of wanting to see what they next few days or weeks bring, but also the fact that GM just seems to be a bullsh!t company to do business with at this point in time. I cannot understand this lack of concern for so many faithful and loyal buyers!! Thankfully, my livelihood is not based on my knowledge of big business because quite honestly, my knowledge is limited. The only conclusion that I've arrived at is that I wouldn't treat loyal customers like this. If Saab goes away, I'll have to buy Saab parts until my two Saabs are history, but that's the extent of my support for General Motors. Maybe I'm oversimplifying this whole thing, but if the worst happens, I can say with certainty and conviction that I will never purchase another GM product.
Sorry for the rant, but I know I'm not alone here.
