Doesn't matter what the party is the story is the same everywhere. I'd rather the government be broke and paying fewer taxes than broke and already paying a lot of taxes.

I live in a "blue" state that requires the budget to be balanced, yet were several billion in debt. Those in power found creative ways to circumvent the budget. Once the elections are over in November they will increase our state income tax 33%. The last governor is on trial for trying to sell Obama's senate seat (among other things), and the previous governor is already in prison.

My car registration went up 25%, city stickers 25%, and pay a 10.25% sales tax. My county (Cook) is doing well, but they are one of the reasons why the sales tax is so high and why my property taxes doubled over the past two years. There's also some questions on why the board president has been hiring "consultants" that worked for his campaign for about $25k a pop. Oddly none of them want to comment on the services they provided the county.

At least they are repaving the main road near my home...
