I had a Ryobi 2 stroke with the multiple attachment system for about 10 years, finally seized up solid.
I bought a 4 stroke Ryobi to replace - environmentally supposed to be better plus a bit quieter according to my research. My observations:
4 stroke is harder to start and stalls more frequently
Slightly quieter
Very little oil smoke or smell
Power seems OK, maybe a bit better but not enough to worry about
Bottom line, the 4 stroke is OK but not so much better than the 2 stroke. Either will be fine for what you're planning.
I do like the click system - I have tools for weedeating, blowing, tilling, etc. Not as good as a dedicated unit for each but more cost and space effective.
