There's a reason cross-overs are popular and one of the fastest growing segments in the car industry. There're just plan handy and the all weather capability really seals the deal. I bought my Outback because my employer required that I have AWD (we're in the rockies) but I have to confess there really is very little penalty to the AWD aspect. The car handles and performs well (I have the H6 3.0) and I readily get 26 mpg plus on the highway. The down side is that around town and winter driving is more like 16/17 mpg. That's fine at the moment but if gas prices start going up dramatically, which I suspect will happen, I'm going to be in the market for something that gets much better mileage. I'd be a player for a 9-4--assuming they have a diesel or hybrid version.
