Very True! And there's no middle ground.

office chairs are either cheap, painful and disposable, or expensive, comfortable and durable. Go figure, but there doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground. And you REALLY get what you pay for...
About 20 years ago I bought a Kreuger chair from Charette. It was a $1300 chair but it had some minor damage for which I could get parts to repair. So I got the chair for $225, and bought the parts (~$10) and still have it.
It's been in almost daily use for almost all that time. Have had to replace the polyurethane "suspension bushings" 4X--always free from Kreuger with free shipping. But alas, parts are no longer available, so I am doing some creative engineering, but it's days are numbered. The bushings are the weak link. Simple part, but under-specified for its job, and a PITA to replace.
So am about to get a decent condition black leather Saab 9000 seat from someone I know and put that on a 5-wheel base I got at the local transfer station (aka: the dump). Might grab the back seat, too and use it for a couch in my office. Just have to build a frame to mount it on. Maybe over the holidays.
And my office will be furnished by Saab!
