I'd stay away from the early NG900s, they had a few problems that got worked out over the years. Generally the newer the better. OG 9-3's have gotten cheap enough that there's little reason not to buy one over the NG900. They are essentially the same car only better. They are amazingly bullet proof and most mechanics who work on Europeans shouldn't have a problem working on them, and in terms of bang for the buck I can't think of a car that offers more. That said I'd be a little careful about recommending cars to people. Any brand can go wrong and they'll definately blame you for their troubles. What do you really gain from making recommendations? I never recommend Saabs to anyone because they really aren't a car from everyone. Unless you can do some work yourself, or at least take an very active interest in what's going on, I don't think a Saab will be a good match. On top of that you need to have a real interest and affection for the brand. Take away any of those three and you have a nightmare in the making--they should go buy a Japanese car. Saab aren't for everyone and if you steer the wrong people into them it won't be long before a lynch mob forms. Who needs it?
