But as for color........ My parents went from a medium multi-hue green/brown to black on their Cape Cod style home many years ago. We went from a very dark brown to a lighter multi-hue shade called driftwood. A dark roof, be it black or dark brown, will make your second story (or first floor if a single story home) and attic MUCH warmer in summer.
Just something to consider. Roofs cost too much money to replace any more often than 20-30 years or so.
