But seriously, altering how you drive, especially the acceleration part, makes a big difference.
My daughter has a '99 9-3. When she drives it her local mileage, according the to the car computer, is 20-21 mpg. She doesn't drive fast, but she accelerates quickly. I get in it and reset the computer. I get 23+ on same kinds of routes and roads. I don't like her car all that much, so I guess don't push the loud pedal as hard. When she drives mine (5-speed vs her autobox) she accelerates slower, despite my car having 60 more HP. Go figure.
I can get 24-25 in local driving (rural area) in my 9K. But on the highway going over 70 does drop the mileage. OTOH, we averaged 28+ over 2500 miles on a cross country trip last summer in one of my 9Ks, often running 80+.
