The device he is talking about is commonly called a "Paper Tiger" - I think that's a brand name of Red Devil. Either that or it is made by the same company that sells DEP. DEP is the name of an enzyme solution that is used in conjunction with the device.
After you score the wall thoroughly, you mix the DEP with warm water and liberally apply it using either a sprayer (messy), a sponge, or in your case, a sponge mop would be good (so you can easily reach high spots). Take your time and do this multiple times over a couple of hours and it's really not too bad even if the wall was poorly prepared.
Keep a bucket of the stuff and sponge handy as you begin to peel it off. Invariably, some parts don't get enough of the solution and you'll have to wet those and "tease" the paper off: wetting, pulling, wetting.....until you get by these patches.
